House System coverage – The first installment

8th+graders+Annabella+Di-Napoli+and+Michelle+Svihra+cheer+on+their+Azim+house.
8th graders Annabella Di-Napoli and Michelle Svihra cheer on their Azim house.

A few assembly’s ago, Mr. Beck had an important announcement. He told us that WIS would be adopting a house system, and these houses would be competing against each other. One advisory from each grade comes together to make a house. There are six houses, each with a name from different countries. There is Kanna, which means explore in Icelandic; there’s Mahi Tahi, which means collaborative in Maori; there’s Berani, which means courage to act in Malaysian; Watchifundo, which means empathy in Chichewa; Radosš, which means creativity in Latvian; and Azim, which means perseverance in Turkish. During assemblies and march madness styled tournaments, houses will have the opportunity to win points for their team. The winner of these competitions has the privilege of holding the House Cup, an award that grants this house early dismissal from advisory and an abundant amount of candy. Stay tuned for house profiles and exclusive interviews.
