In light of the opening of Le Centre Brown, WIS’s new science building, the school is facing an unprecedented multitude of changes and alterations, including modifications to our physical campus, community rules, class schedule and dining system. Among these changes, there are a few lesser-known ones that may be overshadowed by the sheer amount of newness to adapt to. There may be some changes – or details hidden beneath them – that the community is not even aware of. Here are a few examples worth noting.
1. Special lights in Le Centre Brown’s Basement: In the Lower Level 2 of Le Centre Brown, some lights have been installed specifically to match the natural lighting, creating a more intense feeling of brightness.

2. Triple installation of bike racks and a bike charger: WIS now has three times more bike racks than we did previously, and they are all at full capacity every day. In Le Centre Brown, there is also a brand new bike room with a bike charger.

3. Restoration of the four-square garden and driveway: The four-square garden enclosed by Le Centre Brown and the mansion driveway has been restored to its original state, although the garden is slightly smaller than it was initially.

4. The Devil’s Den: WIS is in the process of opening its very own merchandise store, The Devil’s Den, located in the basement level of the Carriage House.

5. Increased tree-planting: 43 trees were removed to make room for the construction of Le Centre Brown, but 289 trees were planted around the campus periphery to compensate.

6. WIShit (soon-to-be): The school may plan to sell the compost generated from the new dining system as “WIShit” in the future for profit.

7. Turf sawdust: The turf on the new field has a layer of sawdust under it, helping it average 30 degrees lower than the old turf.

8. WISfit: Previously the Student Center, WIS’s new weight room has recently opened and is accessible to those who sign up using the QR code posted on the doors of WISFit.

9. New basketball court: A renewed basketball court (which can be multipurposed as a pickleball court) is now situated behind Le Centre Brown.

10. New computer science room: Former Upper School teacher Mr. Buck’s classroom has been combined with the old computer science room to form a more spacious version, now Mansion B2.
