When Russia invaded Ukraine on Feb. 24, 2022, nobody could be certain how long the strife would last. Thousands dead, millions fled and a year later, hundreds gathered outside the Russian Embassy in D.C. in a show of solidarity for the war-torn country.
Wisconsin Avenue, a central artery of the city, was blocked off by police cars so that the protest could occur outside the embassy, but sidewalks were still accessible. Metro buses scheduled to go through the area were lined up on the other side of the police barricade.
