Dateline’s first article including anonymous sources was published recently, and in response we have created a policy dedicated to anonymous sources for the newspaper. Anonymous sources are used only when necessary and in this case were crucial to the credibility and purpose of the article. If the sources weren’t anonymous the statements in the article would not be truthful and would not present an accurate portrayal of the situation. We expect to introduce more policies in the future as Dateline explores more sensitive subject material.
