When COVID-19 forced everybody to stay at home last March, many turned to social media as a form of entertainment. One platform became particularly popular: TikTok. The video sharing app became a hub of trends, many of which were recipes. Over a year later, we take a look at the best TikTok recipes of the last year.

One of the very first recipes to explode on TIKTOK in March 2020 was “whipped coffee”. Also known as Dalgona coffee, whipped coffee is made by combining equal parts instant coffee, sugar and hot water to produce a fluffy texture.

Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients:

Story continues below advertisement
  • 2 tablespoons instant coffee
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons hot water
  • Ice (optional)
  • Milk (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Add instant coffee, sugar and hot water to a bowl
  2. Using a whisk or electric mixer mix the ingredients until they develop a whipped-cream texture
  3. Scoop mixture into cup of choice over ice and top with milk
  4. Enjoy!

Next we have Banana Bread. Nothing can really beat warm banana bread with ooey-gooey chocolate chips and TikTok took that to heart with variation upon variation of the bread going viral.

Time: 1 hour

Ingredients:

  • 3 very ripe mashed bananas
  • 3/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup melted coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup  flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions:

  1. Blend: (yes, physically put it in a blender): 1 cup flour, 1 cup rolled oats, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1 tablespoon cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon salt
  2. Mix in a separate bowl: 3 very ripe mashed bananas, 3/4 cup maple syrup, 1/2 cup melted coconut oil, 1 teaspoon vanilla
  3. Preheat oven to 350 F
  4. Mix dry and wet ingredients and add dark chocolate chips
  5. Butter a 8×5 inch loaf pan
  6. Spoon the batter into the prepared pan
  7. Bake for 35-45 minutes: check in on the bread by using  a toothpick to check if it is fully cooked (insert the toothpick into the middle of the bread: if the toothpick comes out clean and dry then it is ready, if the toothpick comes out with batter on it it is not ready)

Moving onto my personal favorite: bread. Bread making became a craze earlier this year on TikTok so it is only appropriate to share it here. Here is the recipe for the BEST focaccia in the world.

Time: 6-7 hours (including baking and dough resting)

Ingredients:

  • 2 and 1/4 teaspoons of active dry yeast
  • 2 teaspoon honey
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 6 tablespoons olive oil (+extra for hands)
  • 5 teaspoons (about 1.5 tablespoons) kosher salt (+ extra for sprinkling)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Rosemary

Instructions:

  1. Whisk the lukewarm water, honey and yeast in a large bowl and let sit for 5-10 minutes. This step is crucial as it is what will allow your focaccia to rise later on. If the mixture does not bubble by the end of the ten minutes it means your yeast is dead and you must try again.
  2. Add the flour and salt to your bowl. Mix with a rubber spatula until there are no patches of flour remaining.
  3. In a large bowl, pour 4 tablespoons of olive oil and transfer your dough. Flip the dough around in the bowl until it is coated in oil.
  4. Dampen a kitchen towel and cover your bowl with it, be sure there is little to no air reaching the dough.
  5. Let the dough rise for 3-4 hours, it should double in size.
  6. Butter the pan of your choice and pour 2 tablespoons of olive oil in the center.
  7. Transfer your dough from the bowl to the pan and let the dough rise in a warm place (like near a radiator) for 2-4 hours.
  8. Preheat the oven to 450* fahrenheit
  9. Using your fingers, spread the dough on the pan by poking it aggressively (as if you were a grandmother learning to text or aggressively playing the piano)
  10. Once the dough is spread generously sprinkle it with flaky salt and rosemary and drizzle additional olive oil
  11. Bake for 15-30 minutes or until golden brown
  12. Remove from the oven, sprinkle with additional salt and pepper, drizzle with olive oil and enjoy!

It would be a disgrace to TikTok food lovers everywhere if we did not include the viral baked feta pasta in this list. Below is the recipe for a mouth watering pasta.

Time: 45 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 16 oz. cherry tomatoes
  • 4-5 cloves of chopped garlic
  • 1 block of feta
  • 4-5 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • 4-5 cups of cooked short pasta of your choice

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 400* fahrenheit
  2. Place the block of feta in the center of a 9×9 inch oven safe pan
  3. Surround the feta with chopped garlic and tomatoes, drizzly with 2-3 tablespoons of olive oil and sprinkle with salt
  4. Bake for 30 minutes (or until the feta is soft)
  5. Boil water for and cook your pasta while the tomatoes and feta are in the oven
  6. Take feta and tomatoes out of the oven. Once the pasta is cooked, drain it and add to the pan. Mix.
  7. Drizzle with olive oil and top with salt and pepper.
  8. Enjoy!

Last but certainly not least we have tortilla wraps. These became extremely popular in part because they are customizable and in part because they often involve Nutella. Below you will find my personal favorite, which is a french crepe inspired wrap.

Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients:

  • Large tortilla
  • Large scoop of nutella (or other form of chocolate)
  • 1 Banana
  • 4-5 sliced strawberries

Instructions

  1. Cut a slit halfway through your tortilla
  2. Spread the nutella on 1/4 of the tortilla, then place the sliced bananas on another 1/4 and the sliced strawberries on another 1/4
  3. Fold the tortilla going counterclockwise
  4. Fry in a pan with some butter and enjoy!

We hope you enjoy these mouthwater recipes and if you try any, share them with us on instagram by tagging @wisdateline in your story or post!
