At WIS, spring tends to be the most overlooked sports season. In the middle school, the only two sports are softball and track, where the games and meets are always away and usually not as exciting as a soccer or basketball game. But, track still attracts many middle school athletes as training for their main sport, a fun form of exercise, or a way to be part of the WIS community.
Many people say track is an individual sport, but, in events such as relays, it can require a lot of teamwork.8th grader Riley Contee is one of the few runners who competitively runs track outside of school.“It’s great exercise and it gives me something to work at.” -Jakobi Haskell, 8th grader (pictured)“It makes me feel like part of the WIS community and that I am contributing.” -Riley Contee“Track helps me focus and gives me less free time. I also become friends with people I don’t talk to.” -Matteo Caloia, 7th grader“My favorite event is the hurdles because it gives me a rush to jump over them.” -Camilla Valente, 8th grader (pictured)
