Jane Goodall, the renowned primatologist and conservationist, has passed away. The Jane Goodall Institute announced the news in a short message: “On Wednesday, October 1, 2025, Dr Jane Goodall DBE, UN Messenger of Peace and Founder of the Jane Goodall Institute, has passed away due to natural causes.” The nature advocate was 91.
Goodall is most famously known for her groundbreaking research on chimpanzees in Tanzania. As a researcher, she revealed insights into their social and emotional behaviors. This broke down the idea that humans are drastically different from the species that surround them.
This research inspired her passion for conservation, as she fought for the preservation of chimpanzees and their natural habitat. She further raised awareness for the importance of protecting our natural planet through the initiatives she founded: “Roots and Shoots” and “Jane Goodall Institute” to inspire environmental action in people. The Roots and Shoots club is a prominent club for middle schoolers at WIS.
Goodall also spent years speaking about climate action, sustainability, and conservation. She passed away on the United States portion of her tour, where she was sharing stories to inspire people, a tribute to her dedication to the environment.
Rest in peace, Jane.
