Hundreds of thousands of people flocked to the Empire Polo Club the weekends of April 11-13 and April 18-20 for the annual Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. Since its creation in 1999, Coachella has become known not only for its lineups of popular artists, this year including Charli XCX, Lady Gaga, and Greenday, but also its fashion and style.
Coachella fashion has always tended towards the bohemian, hippie, Wild West style. However, this year’s fashion trends swayed towards more extravagant, flashy clothing: while a lot of celebrities still stuck with the bohemian theme, there were huge contrasts in looks. When it comes to Coachella every person wants to stand out; this year’s crowd brought bold colors, fringe, cowboy boots, denim on denim, mesh, and so much glitter.
The celebrities set the tone for Coachella early on. Jennie Kim from BLACKPINK turned heads with a bright vibrant cowgirl outfit. Rising star Benson Boone came in with the Wild West aspect wearing a big belt and cowboy boots. Maria Zardoya, the lead singer of The Marias, dressed in a beautiful white bohemian styled dress that looked straight out of a movie.
Fans and influencers such as Jessi Lee and Charli D’Amelio planned their looks months in advance. They came wearing fringe, big belts, cowgirl boots, and a mixture of bright colors while still keeping that bohemian vibe.
Coachella has always been more than just a music festival: it is one of the biggest fashion events. Whether fans go for the headliners or the fashion, Coachella continues to be the place to go to express style, creativity, and individuality.
