We’re always told to do our part, one person at a time, to make a difference in keeping our daily lives eco-friendly. Yet, how do we actually achieve this?
The answer might not seem so simple, but in reality, making little changes can go a long way. To help with this, below are five eco-friendly household products my family uses, which you can adopt to protect the planet a little more.
1. Compostable and refillable floss
Pure Silk Eco Floss by TreeBird
This one is easy and simple: keep your teeth squeaky clean, and the planet green!
With TreeBird’s compostable floss, you can easily keep this motto in mind. To start off, you’ll want to order the “Pure Silk Eco Floss,” and then for refills, the “Pure Silk Eco Floss Refills.” All of this can be found at TreeBird’s website.
They also have lots of other floss options, including biodegradable and compostable bamboo-charcoal floss. Check it out on their website!
2. Compostable trash bags
13 Gallon Compostable Kitchen Waste Bags by “Superbio”
Taking out the trash is something we all do often, meaning lots of plastic is being used up quickly. When using Superbio’s compostable trash bags, my family and I don’t have to worry about that at all! Do you want to have that burden lifted, too? It’s simple, just use these bags!
3. Beeswax Wraps
Assorted Three-Pack of Beeswax Wraps by “Bee’s Wrap”
Beeswax? What a crazy thing to be using! Well, that’s what I thought initially. Turns out, it’s actually a long-term and sustainable replacement for overuse of plastic wrap and other food covers.
While “Bee’s Wrap” is a popular brand, there are many other brands out there that can be well-suited for whatever your household needs! I encourage you to look into it. For example, my family bought ours at our local farmers’ market.
Beeswax wrap can easily be molded to pack, cover and store all kinds of food. All you need to clean it is a quick hand wash in cool water and mild dish soap whenever needed. With proper care, they last up to a year.
In terms of “Bee’s Wrap” beeswax wrap, once the product has lost its grip and stick, it can be composted or used as a natural fire starter.
4. Biodegradable sponge
Cellulose Kitchen Sponges by “Zero Waste Store”
Scrub with care, keep waste rare! When using these sponges, that’s exactly what you’re doing. These compostable cellulose sponges are made from wood pulp, so they are biodegradable and fully plastic-free.
Once the sponge is too dirty to continue cleaning, you can compost it, bury it underground, or reuse it as a cleaning sponge. This also keeps the reduce-reuse-recycle cycle in mind!
5. Bamboo Kitchen Items

Bamboo products are eco-friendly and have lots of options. From cleaning brushes to paper towels to hairbrushes, nearly any item can be made from bamboo. A couple of long-lasting and sustainable examples are listed above.
By using these five household items, you can take an impactful step towards maintaining a sustainable lifestyle while keeping our planet in mind. Small swaps today create lasting change tomorrow—your home can lead the way to a greener future. Let your everyday choices be the difference the Earth needs!
